It is with a heavy heart that I write this story about Esther Orsa and her association with the Wunderlich Family. The Orsas and the Wunderlichs have long had lives that have intertwined with each other. My earliest recollections of Esther were walking over to the A and P Food Store from Corpus Christi School to check in with my dad before walking home to our house on Queen Street. Esther, who worked with my dad, was always so friendly and kind to me. I, as a young child, could sense that her friendliness was genuine. Fast forward sixty some years and I become reacquainted with Esther at the Shook Home. Esther lived in the Quarters section of the Home and could move freely throughout the facility. This is where God’s Hand played a part. My father had recently passed away. Both he and my mother were together at the Shook Home. I really believe that he stayed alive long enough to make sure that mom with her dementia was settled in to a routine and felt somewhat comfortable. Esther arrived sometime shortly thereafter and became my mother’s guardian angel. When other family members couldn’t or wouldn’t come to visit mom, Esther was there every day visiting her and helping to keep her grounded. They said the Rosary together with the Plummer Family every Wednesday. I will truly miss Esther, yes, for what she did for my mom, but most importantly the extreme selfless kindness that she has shown towards others. God Bless You, Esther Orsa. Please say hi to Dad for us. I know you are both in Heaven.
