Obituary for Terry Cecilia Losee (Harton)

Terry Harton Losee, 88, of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018, at home. She was born on July 30, 1930, on a very hot day in Conway, AR, the daughter of the late B. Moore and Mildred Harton.

A member of Saint Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church for many years, she was active in outreach and social ministries.

Terry was a graduate of Conway High School in Conway, AR. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music in Piano Performance at Oberlin College and Conservatory in Ohio.

Terry was a creative and empathetic person whose gentle spirit touched many. She was a fiercely devoted and loving mother and wife who endured the profound losses in her life with tremendous grace and resilience. Her greatest gift may have been her ability to help others cope with life’s inevitable heartbreaks.

Terry discovered her great love for music when she started playing piano at the age of four. She was an avid and gifted musician, as a violinist in numerous ensembles, as an astute accompanist on the piano, and as a patient violin teacher. She also played and enjoyed listening to jazz. She carried on these beloved activities into the last year of her life. She was a lifelong Democrat and loved her family, reading, traveling and music. She absolutely hated to cook.

In addition to her husband, Robert M. Losee, Sr., she is survived by her daughter, Laura Jones Waterland (husband Robert and their sons David and Daniel) of Chadds Ford, PA; daughter, Susan Losee Nunan (husband Gerry and children David and Lisa) of San Antonio, TX; daughter Rebecca Losee Petitgout (husband Eddie and children James and Elaine) of Charlotte, NC; son Robert M. Losee, Jr. (wife Lee Ann and daughter Caitlyn) of Chapel Hill, NC ; several great grandchildren; sister Mildred Harton Poindexter of Morrilton, AR and brother Daniel O. Harton of Norris, TN and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James M. Jones, her son, James David Jones, and sister Florrie Harton Marquette.

A Memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2695 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA with Rev. Christopher Frye officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Newport, AR. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made in Terry’s name to Keystone Health or South Central Community Action Programs.
