Harold Ellsworth “Hal” Bushman, 97, formerly of Chambersburg, went to be with His Lord Jesus on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in Columbus, OH. He was born November 9, 1920 in Chambersburg the son of the late Ira J. and Bertha E. (Crusey) Bushman. As a child he loved to play the trombone in the American Legion Junior Band and continued playing in bands through his college years and early life. That trombone was always a prized possession brought out on many occasions for his children growing up. He graduated from Penn State University with a BA in Mechanical Engineering. He was part of the Army Core of Engineers in the military. He worked for many years at Fort Ritchey, MD, followed by several years as a private consultant. He then devoted himself to organizing a tape ministry at his church home of over 60 years, Greenwood Hills Chapel. A lover of the outdoors, he spent much time caring for and developing “Bushman Park” in his backyard woods near Caledonia where trails and many family picnics were enjoyed. He and his Chambersburg HS sweetheart, Ruth, also spent much time organizing reunions for the CHS class of '39, keeping meticulous track of everyone’s whereabouts! He also enjoyed keeping track of his many cousins and regularly held “Cousin’s Luncheon” that was so enjoyed. He is survived by his sister, Betty B. Ausherman (93); daughter, Constance R. McClendon; grandchildren, Maxwell Klein (Angela), Aaron T. McClendon (Latosha); great-grandson, Nathan; nephews, Tim (Marlene) Ausherman, John (Sue) Ausherman; and many other loved family members. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L. Bushman (2014); and son, Andrew D. Bushman. The funeral Service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 8, 2018 at the William F. Sellers Funeral Home. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery.
