Charles S. “Sonny” Upperman, 82 , of Chambersburg passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016 at home. He was born on January 12, 1934 in Chambersburg, the son of the late Charles and Ada (Hocker) Upperman. He was a 1951 graduate of CASHS, a long time member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church where he was a Royal Ranger Leader, a past member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge and the Shreiners Zembo Temple. He married Donna (Bittinger) Upperman on November 11, 1972. Charles was the owner and operator of Charles S. Upperman Plumbing and Heating for many years and retired as a Master Plumber from the Chambersburg Area School District in 2009. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, 82nd Airborne. Charles was an avid hunter and loved fishing, especially in Chincoteague. He was a loving family man and enjoyed spending time with all of his family.
His wife of 43 years, Donna (Bittinger) Upperman survives him along with two step-daughters: Trena (Dave) Durff, Gena (Andy) Stouffer, grandchildren: Grant Stouffer, Halie Stouffer, Michael Durff (preceded in death in 2009); one brother: Art Upperman; four sisters: Alva Kline, Tillie Stine, Peggy Stine and Janice Stoey. Preceded in death were brothers Richard and Donald Upperman, and sister Arlene Hull.
A Memorial Service will be held at Bethel Assembly of God Church, Chambersburg, on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 12:00, with the Rev. Kipe officiating. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to service. Memorial donations may be made to the Betel Assembly of God Church, 400 Miller Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
